While the Shouter character was born many years ago, its relevance is growing daily. Originally based on the people surrounding me while working in the competitive tech industry, today we seem to be surrounded by Shouters everywhere. In politics, on television and mostly on social media. The Shouter talks, but won’t listen. The Shouter is not bothered by facts, just opinions – their own before anything else. While observing this behavior, it became clear to me that in many cases this shouting persona was nothing more than a mask – a costume so to speak – to hide insecurities and other perceived flaws.
In the Shouters vs the World collection, I’m exploring the relationship between the Shouters and their costumes. Slowly these masks are starting to lead lives of their own. Now it’s not even clear who’s in charge, the Shouter or their costume. Recently I started exploring the relationship between the social media Shouters and characters from traditional media. This includes characters from my childhood as well as characters from current pop culture. We are drawn to these shiny costumes only to discover who’s hiding within.
